Police Chief Negligently Shoots Womans Leg Trying to Kill Her Dog then Ignores Her to Make a Phone Call

Police chief shoots woman negligentlly trying to kill dog and ignores injury

These incidents are becoming all too frequent and are often unwarranted and unnecessary. At least this time police had, what I would consider to be, a legitimate reason to be there. They had received a call that stated a man was pointing a large gun at another person in a threatening manner.

When the police arrived, the dog approached Chief Roundtree in what he says was a “threatening manner”. When he missed the dog, the bullet hit the sidewalk and ricocheted into Tarmara Whitt’s leg. She says the dog was closer to her than the officer and that’s why the bullet struck her in the leg when it missed the dog. She says her dog is very passive and wasn’t acting aggressive.

I can’t help but wonder if there was ever a man pointing a gun at someone on the porch in a threatening manner and why.
Although he’s on administrative leave at the moment, Assistant Chief Roundtree is due to be sworn in as scheduled.

Police Chief Shoots at Dog, Bullet Ricocheted Into Woman’s Leg

WINSTON-SALEM, NC — Tamara Whitt said that she couldn’t understand why incoming Police Chief Barry Rountree would take the chance of firing his weapon while she was standing so close to the “very passive” dog. As the boxer came toward Rountree to investigate, he shot a round at the dog, which ricocheted off the pavement and into Whitt’s leg. The bullet remains lodged in her leg as it was too dangerous to remove.

The story gets even more infuriating when we learn of how the chief acted after shooting the woman. She says he walked away without even asking if she was OK. “He did not come to me. He backed away,” says Tamara Whitt after being released from the hospital. “He just backed up and I saw the cell phone come out … he walked across the street over there by that car over there and he was on his phone.”

“I just hope that the SBI does a good investigation and really sees if he really deserve to be our police [chief] because I honestly thought that was a rookie mistake.”
